OVERCOMING THE PLATEAU

If you've ever aspired to achieve anything worthwhile in life, you've probably learned that success does not occur in a straight line, point A to point B. But you could straighten the line out as much as possible if you can learn how to and understand the dynamics of overcoming plateaus. If nothing more, you will prevent yourself from backsliding.

The same holds true with fitness. When you are trying to lose weight, build and sculpt muscle, drop body fat, and improve strength, success doesn't occur in a straight line. What usually happens is spurts of progress and relative improvement met head on by "stagnation", also known as a "plateau", that must be overcome.

What the plateau effect is saying to you is that your body has adapted to the stimuli of the program you are on. It will not change if you don't change your approach.

How do you change your approach to overcome the plateau and prevent stagnation in order to progress? You shock it. You shock your body.

In "Natural Fitness for the 21st Century", (Copyright 2002-2003) I allocate a good portion of the book to explaining ways to naturally change your body and overcome plateaus by using shock method formulas that keep your body progressing.

By doing something different, you keep your body's biological foundation and equilibrium guessing, and this leads to transformation of the muscles and body in general.

This goes against how most people naturally train. Most people get into a routine and keep doing the same thing over and over, which is exactly why they can only progress so far and never get to "Point B".

Understand, success is never a straight line, but you can keep it as straight as possible and at least prevent backsliding by using this approach. A plateau is where most people think they failed and many give up. But this is only because they are viewing it as more than it is, which is a point to shock the body into progress and change.

Why You'll Never Be Ripped Without Old School Training

It seems like every few years or so, a new wave of training sweeps through the industry. They become popular fast, and many seem to follow and hop on board. This has been going on for well over a decade, and while most people will experience a sudden surge of motivation due to the commercialism and advertising of such products and gimmicks, their enthusiasm usually winds up short lived becausethey don't see the results they would like of the training or product sold them.

There's a real reason why many new styles of training and exercise can only take you so far, if anywhere at all. While I do advocate changing up your workouts and always trying something new to keep it fun, challenging, and interesting, the fact is that in the long run...

HOW TO BECOME A CHAMPION

There would be no achievement without overcoming some form of competition or challenge. The good news is that competition and challenge strengthens us. The question is, 'Can you do it? Can you overcome the competition and challenges?' If you can, then you have what it takes to become a champion.

No matter what endeavor you are involved in, what sport, or what goal you are trying to reach, there will be some form of competition. One of the secrets to being a champion is to be able to intellectually elevate to a mode where you are only in competition with yourself. This may seem paradoxical. You might say, 'Well isn't the whole point of competition referring to a second party?' Well, yes, but not necessarily.

When you only compete with yourself, you do a few key things to help you form into becoming a champion. One, you force yourself to beat yourself. For example, whatever your 'personal' best was with whatever you are striving to do, you compete with yourself to surpass that. This can only cause you to improve you, which gears.....

STARTING THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET: DOES IT WORK?

When most people hear of a new specific "diet", such as the Mediterranean Diet, they often question exactly what it is and which types of foods it entails eating. This is the key to understanding the health benefits of any particular diet and to breaking down the diet into more basic concepts. They also want to question whether it works.

Scientists have found that the Mediterranean Diet is very beneficial to overall health. It is primarily comprised of nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, poultry, hay, and moderate amounts of wine.

A recent study by Harvard University researchers tracked over 10,000 women over fifteen years. Half of them were given a typical American diet, comprised of a good share of red meat, fried foods, and snacks while the other half had the typical Mediterranean Diet. Diet and health were tracked and monitored throughout the study.

When the women arrived at their 60s and 70s, researchers found that women on the Medit...

UNLOCKING THE MOTIVATION TO SUCCEED

If you are having a difficult time staying motivated, don't worry. Most people do.

It is very normal to experience a lack of motivation every once and a while from time to time when it comes to your workouts or any life goal for that matter. Here, we will explore some of the best strategies for keeping motivated so you can stay active and healthy and in the best shape of your life.

First, you must pursue your passion. Whatever you do, it must connect with you. Sure, you might not have a passion for free weights, but maybe you enjoy yoga or aerobics classes. You might not like running, but maybe you like to stair climb or do plyometrics. Or, you might not like to lift heavy, but maybe you can enjoy a circuit.

The idea is to find something that fits, that feels good to you- it can even be a sport like tennis or golf, or even running marathons or triathlons.

Next, create an image of the shape and condition you would like to be in. This is a highly visual activity. In addition, imagine how you would feel if you were in that condition and looked like that. This is probably the most powerful.....
